The Prison

What is a Minecraft prison server?

A prison server is a Minecraft multiplayer server built around one loop. Every player starts at the bottom, in the lowest mine, with basic tools. You mine blocks, sell them for in-game money, and spend the money on the next rank, which opens a better mine. The ranks usually run from A to Z, and at the top you can prestige: start again from A with a permanent bonus.

Why it is called prison

The name comes from the setting. Every player starts as an inmate in the same jail, and ranking up through the mines is the climb toward freedom. On Fractured Skies the theme shows in small things, such as the free [INMATE] chat tag every account can claim.

What most prison servers have

  • A ladder of mines, usually lettered A to Z, each opened by buying the next rank.
  • Mines that refill on a timer, so they never run out.
  • An economy built on selling what you mine, to a server shop or to other players.
  • Prestige: a voluntary return to the first mine with a permanent bonus.
  • Gangs, teams that share storage and progress.
  • A second currency, usually called tokens, that buys upgrades rather than ranks.
  • Custom enchantments, crates, events and an opt-in PvP area.

Which of those a server runs, and how far it takes each one, is what separates one prison server from the next.

How the prison works on Fractured Skies

  1. Mine. You start in Mine A, cobblestone and coal, with a stone pickaxe and no money.
  2. Sell. /sell all sells to the shop at a guaranteed price; the auction house sells to other players, who may pay more.
  3. Rank up. /rankup buys the next letter and opens the next mine. There are 26, from A to Z, and each pays more than the last.
  4. Prestige. At Z, /prestige takes you back to A and keeps a permanent sell bonus. There are 100 prestiges.

Blocks drop tokens as well as cash, and tokens buy the upgrades that make the next run faster: custom enchants for your pickaxe, sell multipliers, chat tags and nukes. Gangs of up to eight players share a vault and a gang level along the way. The getting started guide walks new players through the first hour.

Everything in the prison

The ladder is the spine. This is what hangs off it:

Every system, one page each

Live

26 mines, A to Z. Each one pays better and costs more to reach.

  • Mine A is free and always open
  • /rankup when you can afford the next letter
  • Every mine refills on a timer, so nobody mines out a shell
Live

Hit Z, hand back your rank, and start at A with a permanent multiplier. A hundred times.

  • Prestige at Z with /prestige
  • Each prestige adds a permanent sell bonus
  • 100 prestiges, built for the long grind
Live

Blocks drop tokens. Tokens buy enchants, multipliers and tags in the token shop.

  • Tokens drop from blocks in every mine
  • Spent in the token shop, not the web store
  • Buy custom enchants, multipliers, tags and nukes
Live

Enchants vanilla does not have, on the pickaxe you mine with and the sword you fight with.

  • Pickaxe enchants change how much a swing breaks
  • Weapon enchants matter at PvP, KOTH and bosses
  • Applied with tokens from the token shop
Live

Claim a plot, run a mine of your own on it, and put plot miners to work in it.

  • Your own mine on your own plot
  • Upgrade the blocks it spawns
  • Plot miners break blocks for you
Live

Sell to players instead of the shop, then settle the argument with a coin flip.

  • List items and set your own price
  • The shop is the floor, players pay more
  • Coin flips stake prison cash
Live

Keys come from events, bosses and the vote shop. Seasonal crates rotate, then close.

  • Keys come from events, KOTH, bosses and the vote shop
  • Every crate lists its contents before you open it
  • Rewards are tokens, enchants, cosmetics and nukes
Live

Up to eight players, a shared vault, and a gang level everyone contributes to.

  • Create a gang with /gang create
  • Shared vault and shared balance
  • Gang level rises from blocks mined by members
Live

One warp, a PvP mine that only opens when someone activates it, and a point worth holding.

  • PvP only at /warp pvp, never in the mines or at spawn
  • The PvP mine opens with an activator
  • It never refills, and stays open until it is mined out
Live

Fight the server's bosses for their loot, or swallow a boss pill and become one.

  • Bosses spawn for everyone to fight
  • They drop tokens, crate keys and gear
  • Boss pills turn a player into the boss
Live

Custom events all season, including a space mine that opens in the End.

  • The space mine opens a custom mine in the End
  • KOTH, boss spawns and seasonal events
  • They pay tokens, keys, tags and multipliers

Classic or OP prison?

Prison servers come in two main styles. Classic prison starts you at a stone pickaxe and keeps the climb slow; OP prison hands out huge enchantments and fast progress from the first hour. Fractured Skies runs a classic ladder and a classic pace, with the token and custom enchant systems OP prison made popular sitting on top of it, all of them earned in game. How the two styles differ.

Do prison servers wipe?

Many run seasons that end in a wipe: ranks and balances go back to zero and a new map opens. Fractured Skies does not wipe. Ranks, prestige, balances and cosmetics carry over from one season to the next, and the mines refill on their timers without touching anyone's progress. What stays forever.

Are prison servers pay-to-win?

Some are: sell boosters, crate keys and in-game currency are sold on many prison servers, and they speed up the players who pay. Fractured Skies is not pay-to-win. Its store sells chat tags, trails, pets, more homes and vaults, more auction listings and a priority queue, and never mine letters, prestige, prison cash, tokens, enchants, crate keys, multipliers or tools. Every upgrade on this page is earned in game. Everything the store sells.

How to join

On Java Edition 1.21 and newer, add play.fractured-skies.world as a server in Multiplayer. On Bedrock Edition, add play.fractured-skies.world with port 19132 in the Servers tab. The join page has the steps for every device, including consoles.
